A little about Starling.
We’re a small but spirited floral design studio based in Toronto’s West End. Spurred by an adoration of field-grown flowers, we offer seasonal arrangements full of specialty blooms from farms right here in Ontario.
Say hello to Emma.
Emma established Starling Floral as a way to share her lifelong love of flowers and farming.
Growing up, she spent her summers in the backyard retreat of a beloved neighbour — a master gardener known for her clematis. There, Emma first realized that flowers can be a sanctuary.
Later, Emma spent several years working on small-scale dairy and biodynamic farms. During that time, she learned about the heart and hard work that goes into sustainable agriculture.
This experience now shapes Emma’s central purpose with Starling — to support the flourishing of Ontario cut flower growers.
Behind our design.
With foundations in retail floristry, Emma has cultivated her art form over years of dedicated practice, guided by florists who embrace place and seasonality. Her design is all about balancing natural charm with an understated elegance — being true to the field yet carefully considered.
For Emma, flowers that grow in consort with nature are exquisite. There’s a quiet sophistication to their gestural stems, nuanced colours and expressive blooms. She lets these qualities shine, composing each piece with reverence for the materials above all else.
Embracing slow flowers.
We’re big fans of slow flowers. Like the Slow Food Movement that started in the 1980s, the Slow Flowers Movement connects flower lovers with the farmers who grow them. Instead of ‘farm-to-table’, think ‘field-to-vase.’
Beyond fostering a meaningful connection with growers, slow flowers is all about the rare and wonderful varieties that will take your breath away. It celebrates the bittersweet ephemerality of seasonal blooms — made all the more special by being grown organically.
When you support Starling, you support specialty cut flower farms in Ontario — most of which are owned and run by women and gender-diverse individuals. You also support local ecosystems and land regeneration, which is increasingly essential to our wellbeing.
